Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hatteras vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Avon. Reserve your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Charming house with ocean view, private hot tub & pool access, washer/dryer & AC has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
