Two bedrooms share the bathroom on the ground floor: a queen bedroom and a room with two singles and a day bed. Take the tired crew upstairs where the king master bedroom with private bath sits with access to a sizable deck area to overlook the striking neighborhood. There are three queen bedrooms on this level, two with deck access. The final king master bedroom is located on the top level. Make cooks jealous in the kitchen with stainless steel appliances and serve up the meal to all guests or take it out and sit on the deck seating and savor an outside dinner. After dinner sink into the hot tub on the deck and watch day turn to nighttime. Or enter the great room and sit on the modern furnishings and watch a movie or read a book while your family enjoys puzzles and games in the home. Located near the beach, this vacation home is in Wind Over Waves, a neighborhood in Salvo. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Outer Banks Beaches and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Rodanthe Pier and Ocean Air Sports are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

When to book a Hatteras rental & When to go:

  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
