Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. I had to cancel my condo rental - You reap the Benefit of a DEEP DISCOUNT has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
