Booking the best Buxton vacation home experience:

Get the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/ Shared Pool, Free WiFi, Ocean Views has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you long to visit, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
