Tips to get the very best rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Shore Break Cottage- Steps to Beach- Incredible Views- Community Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
