Build a striking resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). This is an superb two-bedroom condo with one-and-a-half baths. The interior has been professionally-decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, and there are plenty of appliances, counter space, and cabinet storage in the full kitchen. The living room is a great place to savor a movie nighttime with friends and family after a fun day on the beach. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Strategies to get the very best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beachy townhouse with pool acces, washer\/dryer, fast WiFi, AC & ocean views has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
