Tricks and tips to get the very best rental home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summer is high season in Buxton. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the bestvacation home:
- First, have your family decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/ Free WiFi, Shared Pool, Ocean View, Central AC has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
