Build a striking resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton's unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and, if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers).
The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Getting the best Buxton rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Buxton. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation home in Buxton:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly townhouse with pool access, W/D, AC & ocean views - walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a specific Hatteras attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
