Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental home:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Relax, unwind in beautiful coastal cottage near exquisite Cape Hatteras Seashore has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
