If you are looking for the ideal Hatteras Island vacation home, look no further than The Mad Hatteras. Located one lot back from the oceanfront in Hatteras Village, this dog-friendly home has everything needed for a calming hideaway. Take a dip in the private pool or kick back in the hot tub for rest and rejuvenation. Access the beach directly across the street via the sand path and prepare to spend your days taking it simple on the sandy shore. No matter what type of family fun you seek, The Mad Hatteras is the ideal place the whole family will want to return to for years to come.

Ground Level: Ground Level Conveniences include a completely gated private pool with a hot tub, a park-style charcoal grille, an outside shower, a carport and driveway that accommodates up to 4 cars, and a bags lift. Entering the home from the carport, you'll find a den with a flat-screen TV, a mini refrigerator, an arcade game with many game options, and deck access. Enter bedroom #1, furnished with 2 Twin Bunk Sets. This level also has the use of the full hallway bathroom.

Mid Level: Take the stairs up to the mid-level, which provides access to three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Bedroom #2, is a Queen bedroom with a flat-screen TV, ocean-view deck access, and a private full bathroom. Bedroom #3 is furnished with a Queen bed and a flat-screen TV. Bedroom #4 has 2 Twin beds plus a flat-screen TV. Bedrooms #3 and #4 share the full hallway bathroom. Do not miss the convenient laundry closet with a washer and dryer.

Top Level: Finally, make your way up to the heart of the home, the comfortable Great Room with high ceilings and coastal decor. The Great Room provides a flat-screen TV, ample seating, a sound bar, deck access with ocean vistas, and a dining area seating 10. The freshly refreshed kitchen makes cooking a breeze with stainless steel appliances, roomy granite countertops, and a breakfast bar seating 3. Lastly, you have bedroom #5, a King suite with a flat-screen TV, private deck access overlooking the pool, and a private bathroom with a opulent soaking tub and a separate shower.

Private Pool is open from April – October

Linens and towels are supplied all year. This home will provide sheets for all beds and the beds will be made except for sleep couches, top bunk beds, and trundle beds in which case the sheets are supplied. This home also provides 1 bath towel and 1 wash cloth per person the home sleeps, 2 hand towels per full bathroom, 1 hand towel per half bathroom, and a bath mat for each shower or tub.

About the Area

Located in Hatteras, this vacation home is near the beach. Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and British Cemetery are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Outer Banks Beaches and Pamlico Sound. Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum and Frisco Native American Museum are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

Getting the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hatteras. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself.   • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
