The bungalow has 4 bedrooms including two masters. Pelican Point is a traditional Hatteras bungalow that has been completely refreshed, but without losing the simple island appeal reminiscent of the more remote Ocracoke Island, where live oaks stand watch over one-story cottages and modest family cemeteries that tell the story of the island. In fact the bungalow is constructed by the site of the traditional homestead and resting place of some of the original settlers in the area. Their homestead lasted hundreds of years on the high ground by the live oaks, with the land where Pelican Point now stands serving as the family farm and route to the wetlands and sound for hunting and fishing. Although the original homestead has made way for development, some of the descendants still live near Pelican Point and are great neighbors with magnificent stories to tell!

To help make your stay as fun and casual as possible, we have teamed with Dawn Waldrop a premier property manager and owner of Black Dog Harbor Services (BDHS), based next door to Pelican Point. BDHS will clean and prepare Pelican Point for your arrival; provide bed linens and make the beds; and stock the home with an initial supply of paper towels, toilet paper, dish detergent and trash bags to get you started. BDHS is just a phone call away to take care of any problems or concerns during your stay!

Well-behaved Adult dogs (max. of two) are welcome with payment of non-returnable pet fee ($250 per dog, per stay). No puppies - meaning no dogs under 1 year.

Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Salvo. To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing the rightrental:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Soundfront Sunsets with Private Dock, Kayaks, Large Pool, Hot Tub, Guesthouse has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
