Finding the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer is high season in Rodanthe. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- First, have your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Oceanfront dog-friendly home w/prime beach access, foosball table, spacious deck has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If not, call the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Hatteras destination you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
