Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:
When to visit Rodanthe & When to book:
- Reserve your Hatteras rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Luxury dog-friendly home w\/ocean view, private hot tub, pool table, washer\/dryer has 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
