Tips to get the very best rental experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • To find the best value, shift your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose and book yourvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly home with private pool, hot tub, & central AC has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If not, call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
