Our top Frisco rental home booking tips:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your Hatteras rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Waterfront House w/ Private Hot Tub, Washer/Dryer, Shared Pool, Central AC, WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a specific Hatteras beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
