Discover Brooks Island Refuge. It's your unique sound-front vacation destination. Cross a bridge to the modest neighboring island of five homes in Brigands Bay. Four sound-front tons on the tip of Brooks Island deliver privacy, magnificant vistas, and sound-front water access. Drive your loaded cars into the windsurfing bay where there's plenty of room for rigged sails, kites, and boards. Level one has three bedrooms and a full bath. Level two is splendid living with 10-foot ceilings and a complete entertainment package. The great room is complemented by a entirely-equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar, a formal dining area, a half-bath, and a screened porch with a hot tub. Look across the Pamlico Sound to the Canadian Hole from the third-story deck. Retire to level three to one of the two glassed-in main bedrooms, each with a bath, privacy, and tremendous vistas! Brooks Island Refuge is special in Hatteras because you are on the sound, but you have little close to you other than nature. There are many birds in the wetlands and there is a forested island close by. It is a peaceful rental surrounded by water and nature.

Rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
