Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental home:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Semi Oceanfront Lot, 3rd house back, 2 king beds & bunk bed, Ocean & Sound Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
