Build a striking resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Please note: Guests have access to the Club Hatteras Pool Facility. Additional details around this facility will be shared in your check-in e-mail and during the check-in process. The club is typically open Mid-May to Mid-October, depending on weather.

If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already supplied in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to family pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.

About the Area

Located in Buxton, this vacation home is near the beach. Studio 12 and Kinnakeet Clay Works are cultural highlights, and some of the area's attractions include Uncle Eddy's Frozen Custard and 18-Hole Mini Golf and Buxton Seafood. Frisco Mini Golf and Go Karts and Surf's Up are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Buxton. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself.   • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
