Rental property booking tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- To start, have your family commit to trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sandrose
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hatteras attraction you simply love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
