How to get the best Hatteras rental home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
