Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. In The Heart of Hatteras Village. Close to Beach, Restaurants and Marinas. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
