Strategies to get the perfect Avon vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Avon. Booking your Hatteras vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home with hot tub, WiFi, ocean view, central AC, & washer/dryer has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
