Getting the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Frisco. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the rightvacation home:
- First, have your group commit to date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Waterfront home with pool, private hot tub, ocean view, W\/D & AC - dog-friendly has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
