Tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the perfect rental in Avon:
- Start by having your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home with central AC, ocean view, private hot tub, & pool has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
