Strategies for getting the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. To book the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect rental home in Avon:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront home - screened porch, private hot tub, outdoor shower & pool access has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
