Build a handsome resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest vacation units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton's unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and, if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests - be careful to stay outside the barriers.

This is an superb, completely updated townhouse with brand-new paint, furnishings, floor, and appliances. The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outdoor shower and a patio, and there are plenty of appliances, counter space, and cabinet storage in the full kitchen. The living room is a great place to appreciate a movie nighttime with friends and family after a fun day on the beach. The central air-conditioning will keep the home nice and cool on those hot summer days, and the complimentary WiFi will make it simple to research a new beach adventure. An escape to the cape never looked as good as Cottages at the Cape.

Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Buxton vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home in Buxton:

  • To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Renovated, ocean-view townhouse with pool, W/D & AC - dog-friendly has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
