How to get the best vacation home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking a perfectrental:
- First, have your group choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 4 bedroom house with ocean view, private hot tub & pool access has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hatteras attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
