How to book the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Hatteras rental:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Luxe, ocean- & sound-view home with private pool, hot tub, decks & game room has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
