Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hatteras vacation home experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your Hatteras vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking the best Hatteras rental:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Life is Good: Soundfront, Hot Tub, Shared Pool has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
