Getting the best rental value:

• Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
• The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
• Some owners offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
• Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
• Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

• Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.

• Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

• Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
• Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
• Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
• Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
• Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
• Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
• Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
