Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in Avon. To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Hatteras rental:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Kinnakeet Shores home with private pool, hot tub, game room & ocean view has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
