Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Rodanthe vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a rental home:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer time is high season in Rodanthe. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Hatteras rental home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Luxurious semi-oceanfront home just steps from the Nights in Rodanthe house! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
