Hatteras rental property booking tips:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing the best rental in the Hatteras area:
- Start by having your group agree to dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Family, Fun and Fishing! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
