Booking the best Hatteras rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best vacation rental in the Hatteras area:

  • First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly vacation home right off the sound with pool & private hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
