Strategies for getting the perfect Avon vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly ocean- & sound-view home with private pool, hot tub, & central AC has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
