Strategies to get the best Waves vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Book your Hatteras vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. 6 BR house Dog friendly with mini golf, pool\/hot tub, & game room has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
