Our top Hatteras rental property booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your Hatteras rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

How to select the best rental home:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Can't Get Much Closer Than This! Oceanfront, Rodanthe w\/ Hot Tub & Dog-Friendly has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
