Finding the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and choose your Hatteras rental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beach home overlooking the ocean with pool, hot tub, sauna, & balcony has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
