Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • To start, have your group choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Immaculate dog-friendly, ocean-side home close to beach with fenced yard has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Hatteras beach you long to visit, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
