Rental booking tips:
Finding your best deal:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront\/Private Pier, Water Access\/Pool&Tennis club\/Kayaks\/SUP\/ping-pong has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hatteras beach you crave, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
