Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hatteras rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in Avon. Booking your Hatteras vacation home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the best vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Sound-view, renovated home with saltwater pool, hot tub, & game room has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
