How to find the best Avon rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose a perfectrental:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. The Sunset is Calling at Shells Sunset Cove has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
