Welcome to Sugar Dune! We are located at a unique, narrow section of Hatteras Island that is one row back from BOTH the beach and the sound. Our street is one of only a few places on the Outer Banks with access to both! Sugar dunes and cotton candy skies are just the cherry on top of this unique location--it's really the sweetest spot on the island! A trendy spot for wind/kitesurfing, kayaking, and SUPs on the sound side. The ocean side provides a fabulous beach for kids (flat, gradual slope) and beachcombing. We are also about a mile from Ramp 49 for those who savor the ORV beach experience. About a mile to the ferry terminal for a day trip to Ocracoke. Whatever your favorite Hatteras Island experience, it’s close by!

Booking the best Hatteras rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Frisco. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the rightvacation home:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. New Construction! Short walk to beach AND sound! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
