Welcome to Sugar Dune! We are located at a unique, narrow section of Hatteras Island that is one row back from BOTH the beach and the sound. Our street is one of only a few places on the Outer Banks with access to both! Sugar dunes and cotton candy skies are just the cherry on top of this unique location--it's really the sweetest spot on the island! A fashionable spot for wind/kitesurfing, kayaking, and SUPs on the sound side. The ocean side provides a amazing beach for kids (flat, gradual slope) and beachcombing. We are also about a mile from Ramp 49 for those who savor the ORV beach experience. About a mile to the ferry terminal for a day trip to Ocracoke. Whatever your favorite Hatteras Island experience, it’s close by!

Rental property booking tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. New Construction! Short walk to beach AND sound! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras destination you are crazy about, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
