Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Rodanthe. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the right Hatteras rental:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Condo - OBX - Early Bird Catches the Worm has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
During your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
