Tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is high season in Avon. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Soundside Dog Friendly Home w\/ Pool, Hot Tub, Foosball, Cmty Pool + Tennis Court has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
