How to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, shift your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- To start, have your group commit to dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Swell Suite Apartment, Private, One block to beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
Tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
