Hatteras vacation rental booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Reserve your Hatteras rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. **Pet Friendly** Island Guest House with Pool has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, email the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
