Tips for getting the best Buxton vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your Hatteras vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and choosing a perfect Hatteras rental:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Starlights Building, OCEANFRONT Extraordinary View! Rent All 3 Units! has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
