SOUNDSIDE Avon — Tarpon Dr. — Conjure up the magic of your own childhood beach vacation memories at SANDY KEEKS, a three-bedroom/three-full and one-half bath home offering up a unique layout that can adeptly host two families with plenty of space for all. A prime neighborhood location between the ocean and sound provides plenty of options to fill your days; your only decision is which direction will be calling you first.

Both your kids and furry dog friends will savor the fenced-in backyard for fun and games. You’ll appreciate the shaded lower-level high-top tables and chairs to keep an eye on the action happening in the brand-new saltwater swimming pool and 6-person hot tub. A half-bath and outdoor shower are conveniently close by, and a washer/dryer is located on the ground level as well. Climb the stairs to the first level and discover a screened-in porch, a nostalgic harbinger of what you’ll find inside — a wood-beamed ceiling that inspires a camp-like ambiance. Make no mistake though, the completely refreshed kitchen with all new appliances, granite countertops, and soft-close cabinets is a modern delight for prepping meals. So is the enormous Intelligent TV, providing the ability to stream your favorite show in the comfort of a gorgeously furnished great room. The adults in your group may want to claim this space as their own as two master bedrooms — an ensuite king and ensuite queen — occupy this level as well.

If the adults claim their space, so too should the kids, and the upper level provides the ideal hangout. Just up the spiral staircase is another TV, living area, and modest kitchen with a snack-worthy refrigerator, sink, and microwave. There’s also another queen bedroom and a kid’s nook featuring a pyramid bunk that shares a full bath. Finding your perfect rental:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Soundside Avon - Dog Friendly, Private Swimming Pool, Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.

  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
