Tricks and tips to get the perfect Rodanthe vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by having your group commit to the best dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. New Pool/Soundfront/0.3 mi to ocean/private parking w/i 500 ft ocean/3 K, 1 bunk has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific Hatteras attraction you love, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
